ATI 5770 fan at boot

This is the first ATI video card that I've owned so I don't know if this is suppose to happen or not. When I first boot the fan on my ATI 5770 from Sapphire spins up and down and then the computer boots normally. So i'm wondering if this is normal for that series of video cards or is something wrong?

I've tested everything I can both hardware and software wise so any help is appreciated.

Yep, it's normal.

It's protection to keep the GPU from cooking while things initialize. Once the card is powered up and running, then the video bios can monitor temperature and adjust fan speeds.

Thanks for the information,

I was going crazy trying to figure this out on my own and no one where I lived knew the answer to that question. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't something serious that would require a rma since those restocking fees can be brutal.

I just wanted to make sure that this was normal for my video card since I'm use to Nvidia cards and they don't act in this manor.

I stand corrected.

Never owned a Nvidia card that ramped the fan at boot like this before but it's good to hear that this is a normal occurrence from both companies. Now I won't have to complain if I get a Nvidia card next upgrade and have the same thing happen.
