reading a few reviews of the dailytech page, and i was disappointed, and it wasn't until i came in this thread that i realized i was looking at reviews of a 4850, and not the 4870. i feel silly. can't wait to see the 4870.

call it a hunch.... but i think the one labeled as 4850 is the 4850

Laugh all you want, but when I replied there was no way to denote which score belonged to which card.

Good to see the 4850 still spanks the pseudo-9800GTX+, and will still be cheaper.

Gotta account for the magic drivers still.[probably reduced IQ...]

LMAO so correct

I am glad that ATOT isnt fooled by the low blows that Nvidia constantly deals, its not that I am PRO AMD, I couldnt care less which company goes agaisnt them, I just want them to go down because of their stupid "our costumers are so dumb they will believe us anyway" tactics

Who knows. Maybe they're jealous of AMD because they're hogging all the plus signs with their processor titles.

I'm glad to see ATI/AMD back to competitiveness. These cards should have been out last year to compete in terms of performance. However if you add price into the ratio, they do very well. I would wait for better drivers from both companies before I would conclude any winners.

Shouldn't be, other than the fact that you can CF two 4870x2s for a total of 4 GPUs on 2 cards instead of having to have a motherboard with 4 PCIE slots, much less a case to easily house them in.

Edit: Actually good point ajaid, didn't think of that o.o;

Who even mentioned the 260? You can't show me one even though you brought it up. Just admit to being a hypocrite. It's the first step for your recovery.
AMD releases a card that beats the 9800gtx and costs less. All NV has done is spread rumors on how they plan to "rain on the parade"
It beats it? In every game? Please show that link. It costs less? Please link to newegg how much a 4850 costs. You got nothin'.
If the 9800gtx was doing so fine against the 4850 then why is NV spreading all the damage control rumors?
What damage control. They are dropping the price on their last gen card and providing a new driver and clock bump for it. This is pretty standard stuff. Where have you been? So now ATI finally releases a new card to compete in the last gen and you think that's news....

go troll somewhere else. 4850 was SUPPOSED to compete with 9800gtx. that was what most of us expected. instead, it is 5-10% FASTER THAN 9800GTX!!! Do you not believe what your eyes are reading? This is a MIDRANGE card that is stomping all over nvidia's upper mid/lower high end card. I think that many of us were caught napping b/c daamit has been so weak with their recent introductions. This is good for ALL of us as many posters have mentioned.

Actual mainstream sites that were under NDA are now releasing benchmarks. Guru3D for one. Techreport has stated they are working on one now, I imagine Anandtech will have one soon.

Those I can trust.

I read w1zzard's entire write-up. You're not going to like it.

Something wrong with the 9800GTX in that techreport review, it scores lower than the 8800GTX!!, & why didnt they turn on tectures etc on Quake Wars?...does the ATI not like them?

But from several articles, 4xGPU doesn't offer nearly the same scaling or value as 2xGPU. That's why I'm pondering 2x4870 over 4870x2.

Maybe because the 8800 is a better card with more memory, bandwidth, and ROPs?

Damn dude. If the 4870 represents a decent advantage over a 4850, I think that means ATIMD is back in this bitch.

I thought that the 8800GTX was faster then the 9800GTX in high res/AA settings.

No those numbers are indeed correct. 9800GTX starts to choke with AA and resolution while 8800GTX/Ultra tends to chug along.

I agree, but they have shown 3x GPU scaling to be worth it, so perhaps CFing a 4870x2 and a 4870 would be the best performance/money. But it would just be cool to run two x2s, and you certainly won't loose any performance over it :).
