yes, the S2 has only 2 heatpipes. Think of it as a class, where class 1 is the best...the S2 is meant to be a cheaper heatsink for cards more in the midrange where you don't necessarily expect 3D performance out of them, just absolute and worry free silent operation (some of the lower end cards with their own passive coolers can run uncomfortably hot relative to an S2).

The performance enthusiast might not like it because their chips will still run hot and not be very overclockable at all. However most chips (we're talking midrange and on down, ie the 3650s and 8600s and below) will run within safe opperating temps, provided you don't opperate it in some insanely hot ambient environment as has been shared with us before (90F+), and thus it does become a very attractive option for silence enthusiasts.
