have a damaged ATI 4850 graphics card

No matter what i do the card will always signal an overheat error, and not allow the computer to boot into windows.

My problem began occuring after i dropped my computer.
Physically, everything is fine.

I do not get this problem with the ATI drivers uninstalled

I have a Zalman vf900 aftermarket cooler. i checked using GPUZ and my idle core temp was around 45 degrees C

The card runs fine under safe mode, and before windows installs the ATI drivers.

With the ATI drivers installed, the windows loading screen will be reached, but once the drivers are initialized in the loading sequence, the red overheat light will appear on the card and the computer will shut down

(i have confirmed that it is an overheat error by using the error reporting console in safe mode)

I have tried using old and new drivers, I have tried swapping computers, different OS's, swapping coolers.

Does anyone have any idea how i can get around the overheat error? perhaps by disabling it in the ATI bios?

The card works fine, except for this stupid problem

You may need to remove and reseat the GPU cooler. If that doesn't help then the ATI drivers are IDing some problem with the card and you may want to RMA it to the manufacture.

Not only that, the card was modded with the aftermarket cooler. Warranty is void.

True... but you could put the old cooler back on and RMA it. Not saying you should... just that you could.
