Behold tha beast!

http://www.asus.com/products.a...model=2051&modelmenu=1

It cost me $37 AUD ;)

I don't have any real games installed at the moment, but it will be interesting to see how it handles hl2/ep1/ep2/farcry/colin mcrae 2005 compared to my 6800GS@>U.

I suspect in farcry I was always horribly cpu/mem bound with my old 2.1GHz Athlon machine, the Q6600 should deal with that issue :)

It's just a placeholder until I get a 4850, of course.

Had one before my current HD4870. Could play Dark Messiah of M&M at medium at 1680x1050 (source game). Wasn't smooth as butter, but was ok-ish. I would say it's around the speed of a 9800Pro, maybe a tad faster.

It's ok to do everything except serious gaming, oldies play well on it though :)

Cool, I'm still using my 21"CRT so I'm more than happy at 1280 if need be, or even 1024 is I must ;)

I'll be interested to see how it stacks up against my 6600GT in real life (I've got an archived thread on here with CS stress test scores I assume I can compare to, the actual card was sold years ago (for $200 AUD!).

dear god the 3450 is a horribly slow card for gaming. its right on par with the 8400gs and sometimes 8500gt. in other words its usually much less than HALF the performance of the already pitiful 8600gt. the 3450 is going to be a slower on average than the 4 year old 6600gt.

I think you've entirely missed the point of this thread, but nevermind ;)

I'd be interested to know how you came to the bolded conclusion? I know 3dmark is often somewhat misleading, but it's all I've had time to run at this stage, and 3dmark05 suggests that the 3450 should be perceptibly faster than my old 6600GT, which was sporting a very considerable overclock under a nice Zalman cooler.

I didnt miss the point so theres no need for the eye roll. If anything I should roll my eyes at you for thinking that your 3Dmark score will translate into meaningful game benchmarks. lol. Anyway everything I said about the 3450 is true and you can look it up if you doubt me.

Heres one little chart showing the 2400Pro at almost the bottom of the list so its actually worse than I even thought. Remember that the 3450 is basically a rebadged 2400Pro. http://www.tomshardware.com/ch...4%2C1584%2C1617%2C1563

Heres the 3450 getting a wonderful 8 fps in Bioshock at 1280x1024. 6 fps in CoD 4, and LESS THAN ONE FPS in Crysis. http://www.overclockersonline....ticles&num=1642&pnum=8

Do you really need any more proof that the 3450 is a joke?? If you are happy with the slide shows on 3450 then you positively shit yourself when the 4850 arrives and can actually play the games. lol :D

It's not an eyeroll, it's a confused icon, so cool your jets ;)

I never for a second meant to suggest the 3450 was an adequate gaming card for modern games, I'm just impressed that I can get something that is apparently faster than my 6600GT (and fanless) for just $37 AUD today.

It's just a placeholder until I get a 4850, I'm waiting to see how the dust settles on OEM cooling solutions, and yes, I'll be blown away!

I could quite adequately play those games I mentioned in my OP with my 6600GT, so (assuming 3dmark isn't completely out of it in this instance) I'm hoping I will also be able to with the 3450, at least until I get a 4850.

As I noted, I'll be very interested to see how the 3450 stacks up to the 6600GT in real gaming, which as you point out, is often not how 3Dmark suggests cards should perform.
