ATI 2D quality issue

I have an issue with my Radeon 8500 card, and it's really starting to bug me. When I first bought it, I was entirely unimpressed by it's 2D quality, my GF2MX was doing a better job (granted it's probably the best 2D output I've ever seen on a Geforce) and my Voodoo stomped it into the ground. It's blurrier and occasionally (especially at 60hz) there are wavy lines through the image. For some reason that really worried me, the 2D quality rocketed when I went to the Cat 3.4 drivers, diminished slightly with the 3.5s and have gone back up with the 3.6s.

Can I RMA this card based on the poor 2D? The whole reason why I bought an ATI card was to have an excellent 2D image, what I have now is an eyestrain even in lower resolutions. In fact I'm using my Voodoo5 mainly now unless I game. So do Ati allow returns like this or will I have to eat it and go buy something else?

Sounds like you have the famous wavy lines problem that a lot of ATI owners have.
There`s a big thread on this over at rage3D forums, you could probably RMA it for a replacement since there`s always the chance your card is faulty or the replacement model will be better.

Why are you at 60Hz? If you`re using LCD then using DVI(if possible) will solve the wavy line problem.

I`m using a Sapphire 9700NP and the image quality is excellent,I did have slight wavy line problem(was really a moire problem) at the sides of my CRT but adjusting the moire controls fixed it(I did try a GF2 Ti and it was my monitor that was the problem).

Anyway I`m on DVI now with my LCD so no problem,I would suggest you use the DVI/VGA adaptor and try the DVI port on your ATi card, that has fixed the wavy line problem for some people.

the 60hz thing comes from gaming, I know I can fix it, but for now I'd rather a better card. DVI on this card is great, no problem with it. The thing is my Voodoo5 at 60hz is sharper than my ATI at 100hz. I'll head over to the rage forums and check it out, thanks.
