This combo will only display things in 8-bit color. I've tried several combos of drivers for the chipset and the video card. For the love of god all I want is 16-bit color. Is that so much to ask? Any helpful hints and you will have friend for life. Thank you.

What is your monitor detected as? Sometimes when you install video drivers, the monitor settings get reset. Try removing your monitor from device manager and then refresh so Windows re-detects it. I've had to do this a few times when upgrading drivers. The monitor would become "unknown monitor" and Windows would default the resolution supported to 640x480. Once I reset the monitor's settings (either letting Windows detect the PNP settings or manually setting the monitor's supported resolution and frequency), I was able to change resolution and color settings. Hope it works out for you.
