Athon 64 Mobile 2800+ (1 MB cache) - $122 shipped

This is my first hot deal post - this seams like a good deal to me. A socket 754 Mobile CPU with a whopping 1 MB of cache:

Mobile Athlon64 2800+

It comes out to $122 shipped at the moment. I believe these have unlocked multipliers, so you should be able to overclock it without spending a fortune on memory and motherboard.

Anyone have experience with these chips?

The model number is : Mfr Part Number: AMA2800BEX5AR

which denotes a newer stepping of the core (with better properties).

Its a clawhammer. With an unlocked multiplier, you could combine this with a $58 NForce3 Socket 754 motherboard, and non-fancy memory. The chip should be able to run at 2.2 GHz, which would make it the equivalent of the Athlon FX-51. IF it can hit 2.4GHz, it should perform similar to an Athlon FX-53.

San Diego is actually available on Socket 754. Shentech.com has the 3400+ (2.2GHz) and 3700+ (2.4GHz) "San Diego" Socket 754 mobiles. A for anybody looking for a cheap, low-power Socket 754 mobile, memoryexpousa.com sells 2800+ Oakville 35w mobiles for $110 shipped. These are based on the Winchester core, and run at 1.8GHz. Would be an awesome CPU for a cheap file server, HTPC, etc.
