AthlonXP CPU Temps?

I have an Asus A7V333 MB and an AthlonXP 1900+ CPU with a Volcano 6Cu HSF (Arctic Silver II Paste) and the hardware monitor is showing 53degreesC at idle with the case open. Is this too high. If I close the case up, it jumps to 57degrees. I'm using an Addtronics server Tower with an Enermax 431 PSU. So I have a total of 1 120mm fan and 1 80mm fan pulling air in and 1 80mm pulling out along with the PS fans.

Any ideas? Are there any "new" HSFs out there that work better with the AthlonXP or are my temps in line with proc specs?

That's about 127F - 135F. I don't know how high that is as far as XP's go, but I just put a new rig together with a 1700+ & Volcano 6Cu and get temps of about 112F - 117F. I debated long and hard before doing it, but I used the thermal pad already on the 6Cu instead of thermal paste. I'd like to see some other folk's temps as well.

Also, I'm using the 4500 rpm version of the 6Cu & took those readings with an open case.

My 1900 runs at 43C load 48C on an Abit KR7A Raid board with a OC/Gladiator fan.
I run at 35C with CPU Cool retail version.

Thermalrite AX-7

Try using some AS III on your current HS.

is hte A7V333 set to read from the internal diode?

if so, those are the temps you'll generally get with the internal diode... they're "truer" temp readings than most by far.

Got a AOpen AK73 Pro(A) w/ XP 1700+ processor. I'm using a Dragon Orb3 HSF and it runs about 33C idle, 40C under load. I do have 4 case fans which does help.

Well unfortuantly I have the Volcanu 6cu as well and the temps are redicoulus with this HSF, I have an XP1700 not Oc'd and I was running out to 57degress C at load, I have since upgraded the PSU to a dual fan 420 watt, and added an addtional 7 80mm fans so in total Im running 10 fans, one location to make sure you have a fan located is on the back of the case right behind were the processor is sitting, I got a 80mm hole saw drilled my full tower case and added a 80mm dan there and dropped a good 8 degress C. All in all the internal diode states that Im still running at 50 degrees C on load with the case buttoned up, I also have a compunurse prob that sits right by the proc and it reports about a 10 degree C difference I dunno if that is because its beside the proc as were the diode is internal. My rig is located in my sig, o btw Im running the thermal pad I havent personally seen a big enough difference between goop and tape in any boxes I built or any of the boxes my buddies have built, Ive seen at most a 2 degree C difference not really worth it in my opinion. Who knows millage may very....

Darkside,

Does the ECS board really read the internal diode? From all that i've seen, it reads temps via a socket-thermistor, not internal temps.

SEcondly, socket-thermistor temps are highly compressed, making comparisons such as heatsinks and greases impossible to measure accurately.

i have an xp 1600 oced at 2000 (locked) on the iwill xp333 brd.
temps are at 49-55C watercooled.
i have absolutely no fans on the case though, but the case is consatntly open.
my systems temps are at 32C
i know when i had only one 80 mm fan in the opne case the system case were 4C lower, and the overall tmeps 4C lower also.
i have to put a strong 120x120x38 or 2 80 mm fans on the open case, andi am sure, the temps will drop ~4C

my dilemma is that the radiator and water is cold, but it will not cool any less than 48-49C.
i dont know where the limiting factor is.
maybe something with the pump or the waterblock (contact with CPU or water bubble)
i have water from a resevoir and a eheim 1048 pump witht he cube radiator, with 2 138 cfm (120 mm) fans on the cube. all watercooling outside the case.

I'm using a WBK38 with a really loud fan. I hate the clip on it. I think I might have moved too much of the AS2 off of the chip while trying to put it on.

Four case fans and one noisy-@ss fan on the CPU heatsink.

Ok. My temps run 48C idle and 59C at full load. However, I'm wondering if it reads higher than average because, supposedly, the Asus A7v333 reads of the actual CPU diose instead of the motherboards. Does that sound right?
