AthlonXP 2200+ being recognized as 1.6ghz

At POST it's wrong, but in Windows it's right. Should I be worrying? Everything is running good, and I'm assuming it's being misidentified, because I'm using an old bios (for stability) on my ECS K7S5A.

TIA.

An Athlon 2200xp should be about 1.8ghz in actual clock speed. A 2000xp is about 1.67ghz or so while a 2100xp is about 1.73ghz. Assuming, as of this post, you have already updated to the latest BIOS that properly identifies the processor, I'd doublecheck the serial number on the CPU to make sure they sent you the correct one.

That's about what I would expect for that motherboard: I had one but got rid of it because of all kinds of squirrelishness like that. If that is all that is wrong, consider yourself lucky.

I've had 2 K7S5As running in different machines for over 2 years, and I've never had any problems. Then again, I don't overclock or anything.

Sandra, CPUID, and Windows all detect my chip as a 2200, and the Sandra benches show that it's running at 2200 speeds...so I guess I'm not worried.

Thanks for the help.

Yes your athlon 2200+ should be running at 14x133 or so depending upon your exact setup. What does your bios report as your FSB and multiplier?

BTW, my laptop has a mobile 2400+ in it and it varies the processor speed to save power, you might look into that if you have an athlon xp-mobile. Else I wouldn't see why this would occur.

This is a really easy problem to fix.

With the k7s5a, simply go to your bios and change your fsb to 133/133. It's probably at 133/100 right now.

Its a BIOS issue. If POST reports it running at 1.6ghz while Windows and CPU ID reports it at 1.8ghz, usually Window/CPUID has it right. This is similar to people upgrading old Slot 1 mobos with Upgradeware/Powerleap slotkets and plugging in higher speed Tually CPU's. Maybe you should check if there is a BIOS update for the mobo.

A xp2200 tbred is 1.8, but isn't a barton 1.6?

EDIT: nm ia mobile barton 2200 is 1.66.

I'm not sure, but even if a Barton was 1.6, they aren't supported by this board.

I'm sure it's a bios issue now. Problem is, I've tried flashing to a new bios and it gives me trouble with every bios after this one. Does it really matter if the bios isn't detecting it correctly...but windows, etc are?
