Which one should I upgrade to, and which chip runs cooler. I heard the EE's run really hot? Thanks!

FX51 since it's cheaper, it's very fast, and it'll get more support in the future.

I notice you already have an A64. Why the rush to go top-of-the-line again?

With the setup in your signature it would be easier to upgrade to the P4. I believe that both chips will run pretty close to the same temperature.

How do you figure it would be easier to upgrade to a P4?

If you want the FX, i say go for it.. For $400 less, you get an unlocked multiplier for one and its easy to overclock it, not to mention, will take a P4EE and spit it out.

Downside is you need registered ram to go socket 940. You should wait until Q1 to see what AMD does. They might release 1mb cache socket 754's.

Ah, I see. I think jdogg707 meant that Compddd already has 1GB PC3200, so that can be recycled with a P4EE system.

Nah it dont matter, I can trade in my current ram for ECC corsair 3200 if need be, and socket 754 A64's have 1mb L2 cache atm

unfortunately, the P4 EE is only compatible *so far* with a certain revision of Intel's D875PBZ. I got an email from their tech support saying that.

Since you already have a fast computer, why not wait for the FX-53? You will need a new motherboard for the 53 since it is the new 939 next gen pin. Personally, I am waiting for the FX-53 to be realeased in Q1 of next year. The EE cost about $1000!

How much will you be selling the K8V/A64 for? I may be interested if you sell it a few weeks after Christmas. :)

I wouldn't get either. You already have a AMD64 3200+

What is the point of wasting the money on a chip that's only going to give you a minimal improvement in performance? You are spending the maximum amount of money for the lowest amount of benifit....
