People have overclocked AthlonFX 57 CPU's to 3.9Ghz When will Dual cores get to 3Ghz
I want a 3Ghz X2 NOW dammit >_< grrrrrr

Do you think we'll see AMD tap some 65nm asSSs mid next year? they better because intel love tapping asSSs! and for some reason they always come out with crap!

Opteron 165 (if you can still find one; alternately any of the lower-end dual-core Opterons/X2's) + phase change = 3GHz ;) (and probably around the price of an FX-57 :p)

There were also some earlier steppings and weeks of the dual-core Opterons that hit 3GHz on air, but only a few very lucky people got their hands on those - they're probably gone for good now, I'd guess.

65nm should of been out already, two years ago they said FAB36 would start at 65nm. I'v been away for a while so Im not too sure what thier excuse is.

Why rush?

They are pumping the chips out with good yields @ 90nm no rush to 65..

After seeing the Yonah Preview/Review, AMD definitely doesn't need to rush the process.

65nm = more samples pr wafer = better revenue. But I'm sure AMD has its reasons.

Actually, Yonah seems pretty promising. Remember that this is a mobile processor, not a desktop one. So a lot of the mobile computing constraints come into play, namely power consumption. If performance numbers are normalized to performance/Watt, then Yonah has definitely beaten the lower end X2s (I'd actually want to see a downclocked to 2.0 GHz 4400+ (that's what? 4000+?) vs the Yonah, as that puts the total cache size on par).

Quite frankly, I've been a hardcore AMD fanboi for the past 2 to 3 years now (and for good reasons, just like most others here). However, I do think it's very important for AMD to keep the lead on now and in the future for market share. With the introduction of Merom in H2 next year, I think AMD will have a very difficult time just keeping up, even with their 65nm die shrink (the die shrink will put the A64 at the same frequency as Merom). The last thing I want to do is to retract my words to my friends: "Yeah, AMD >>> Intel right now."

On the other hand, I believe that AMD has their next year and a half worth on their roadmap implemented, tested, and ready to ship. So here's hoping that AMD is an activist in bringing out new technology like their x86-64 extensions and not making us fanboys wait too long.

More samples don't matter if they don't work. You don't simply switch to a smaller process and get instant results. The need to get efficient enough yeilds before they switch.
