Ok...I'm in no way a newbie to computing...but I am sooo a newbie to overclocking...

I've just ordered an Athlon64 X2 4400 (Toledo core) to replace an Athlon64 3500 (original clawhammer core!)..

This is what the specs of the PC will be:

Athlon64 X2 4400 (Socket 939 - Toledo - 2MB cache)
4x512MB Crucial Ballistix DDR400 RAM
Foxconn 6150 M-ATX Mainboard
ATI 2900XT Video Card

I'm not looking for an extreme overclock...maybe just 200Mhz or so would be fine on stock hs/fan.. just trying to get the CPU to keep up with the video card :)

Currently the PC is broken up as we're in the middle of moving, but once it's back together I'm going to have a crack at overclocking it a little...

As I mentioned in the summary...the last overclock I did was on a Celeron 366 to get it to 458Mhz.. (by changing the bus speed from 66Mhz to 83Mhz or something..god I can't believe I remembered that)..so I wouldn't even know where to start...

Yes I know there are topics on this which I could/should search.. and I most likely will.. but if anyone has any pointers they know of, that would be a great start..

X2 OC guide

OC Matrix Calculator - Google for one (there's plenty), or send me an e-mail and I'll send you one that I used before.

Once you get your max stable values from the first link, toss them in the calculator to see what you can actually set the BIOS settings to.

I used these tools to get my Opty 170 (2.0GHz stock) running at 2.7GHz on stock volts (270MHz x 10x Multi) and Memory @ 225MHz on stock volts & timings (166MHZ or 5/6 divider).

Thanks. I've checked out the OC'ing guide before, but I think I was too hasty with my expectations... I'll give it another go when the new CPU arrives..
