athlon64 3200+ winchester low marks

Hey all. I am running a 3200+ winchester on an ASUS A8N SLI with a BFG 6800GT Maxtor 300gig HD and Muskin Lvl2 V2 black. Basically for some reason all my benchmarking scores are quite low. My Sandra CPU bench is only 7985 dhry and 3720 whet. This is below what semprons score with a slower clock speed. I run slow comparatively on the multimedia test as well. Also when overclocking my 6800gt to 420 1100 I can't improve my 3dmark05 score at all above 4800 which suggests some sort of limitation. Anyone have any clue why my comp seems to be performing below spec? Right now I am not overclocking at all either and I can run the comp completely stable. Anyone got any ideas.

What are your settings 200 x 10 =2000?
What are the timings on your ram per CPUZ or bios?
What does CPUZ show for your memory speed?

Your Sandra scores look a little low, but Sandra is mainly an Intel benchmark and is very sensitive to memory bandwidth and timings, things that don't affect performance much on A64's. Overall Sandra is not a good benchmark for A64's it misreports information in several areas. I doesn't recognize or utilize dual channel memory(intel doesn't have dual channel). In my experience with an a64 using Sandra I can run the same benchmark 4 times and get wildly different scores each time especially the file system benchmark. If you don't like your scores run it again they will be different😀

3dmark is mainly a video card test but it does benifit from higher ram speeds and timings and cpu. I'm not positive but I think 4800 is pretty normal maybe a little low for a 3200+ stock and 6800GT 420/1100 on the GPU. Overclocking really gives a boost to 3dmark. For example my 3200+ A8N-SLI stock score with 6600GT stock 300/1000 was 2795, my current overclocked settings @ 2601mhz w/ram 236mhz(DDR472) GPU 575/1170 is 3708, my overclock increased the score by 913 points

Yes, what are your memory timings and HT settings as well as multiplier settings.

This is the first step.

These days the memory (due to the Hypertransport bus) plays a major role in overall performance, and the settings are quite different from the non 64 CPU's

Thise sandra scores are way off and memory doesn't effect them at all...the fsb a slight bit but I mean a small amount and mainly more in the multimedia test....

Are the latest drivers loaded? How are your power rails? I had the same problom but much worse 3dmark 05 scores on a fresh load and latest drivers I ended up installing a new PSu old one was POS 350w noname. Then reloading from scratch "formating" loaded xp then latest mobo drivers first. 3dmark05 jumped from 2300s to 5100s

I've got exactly the same problem. I'm sure the system was running quickly for the first few days I had it, so I'll try rolling back to the drivers that came on the Asus CD.

3000+, A8N SLI

Dhry: 7407
Whet: 3681

:/

Please let me know if you get anywhere. I'll post back here after driver rollback.

EDIT:

So I rolled back to SMBus driver 4.45 (from the CD), with no change. I then rolled the BIOS back to 1002, and still very very poor scores. (Around 7600 Whet).

I don't really know what to try now, short of a full reinstall of XP.

All the speed settings in the BIOS are on Auto. Multiplier is 9x, HT is 2x1005, RAM is 200.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Your 3dmark score are right on par with where they need to be. I have a winchester 3500 and stock with a 6800gt clocked at 420 and 1100 I got 4813. I think i finaly found my best overclock today so i will do a bench today. I really need to get the ocz voltage booster. overclock

run 3dmark 01 instead. if your CPU is fine you should be getting somewhere around 20k

(my overclocked 3200 gets 26300)
