I have been looking with curiosity at the temperature readouts from overclockers and it looks like my CPU at 2-3% usage is hotter than most of the overclocked chips on full usage!!
WTF!
I am only using some basic OEM fan without thermal grease BTW. I have just ordered a Global Win VEK32 (or something) because of it.

I mean, are such temps NORMAL??!

It does seem very high for a 600 MHz...Especially if it is a classic Athlon...My TBird 1GHz (not overclocked) runs @ idle at 34-35C and at 44-48C at full load depending on room temps (This winter will be very good to the TBird :))...I would suspect that your CPU cooling is a little inadequate and/or your case cooling a little low also...

Also, I've applied the thermal paste to 2 OEM heatsink/fans that came with 400Celeron systems and it lowered the CPU temp by 7C on each one...So the thermal paste/grease is very important!

Good Luck!

I agree that your temperature is too high. Your chip is not working any harder than being idle when you are "just surfing." You can verify this by looking at the chip performance in TASK MANAGER.

Funny thing is, at full usage my CPU doesn't go over 49ºC either!!
Since I did not fit a thermal sensor, it must be from one inside the cartridge. Where inside?!! Can't be too close the the die, can it? Doesn't vary enough.
Thermal tape is a very poor conductive contact, folks!

im at 122F (50C) just surfing, but my system is OCed from 650 to 800 and volts are at 1.85

also my room temp is around 85-90F (~34-35C) degrees. which is sauna temperature, ooh sweat.

i dont worry about it, i have all the air cooling i can take.

Alpha P7125 w/ 2 Black Label Deltas
Arctic Silver paste
2 120mm YS tech 131cfm Intake/Exhaust
1 120mm Delta Card Cooler

and btw my temp probe is right next to my core, so it is very accurate.

are u guys with low temps sure that u have a probe extrememly close to the core?

i had a mobo that had a built in probe underneath the cartridge. It was very unnaccurate. Temps were about 20F less than the probe being right next to the core.

Thankyou Frank828, is your room so hot because of your Athlon then?!
If your YStech fans are shifting 131cfm, it's only a matter of time before your system takes off I should think. Wheeeeeeeooooooowwwww.

Oh BTW I had a look at the Athlon and saw that the retainer bars weren't locked. Still, I only got down to 46 with them. At such high temperatures, isn't AMD effectively already "overclocking" their processors?
