Athlon XP's a few questions...

Right here goes first post... (hope i dont repeat anything too horrendously)

1. Are all motherboards that support the clock speed of the xp (ie; 1800+ - 1533) compatible with the processor,
or does the m/board have to be manufactured especially to work with the xp's?

2. Are they at all overclockable (ie; do they come unlocked or whatever xp's need to be)

3. If so what has anybody got them up to?

4. What does XP stand for (since I'm the local boffin everyone will ask me 😛

thanks 🙂

I've just recently upgraded to a AthlonXP 1700+(1.47GHz) from a athlon 700 and it's a major jump in performance..

too answer your questions in order..

1) Not all motherboards will run the AthlonXP, mine(ABIT KG7) needed a bios upgrade before it worked, and was recognised, properly.

2) I've got mine to 1600MHz, WindowsXP recognises it as a Athlon(tm) XP 1900+, but it's not 100% stable.. They do not come unlocked, the L1 bridges are cut with a laser so there is a pit to cross if you want to connect the bridges.

3) Answered above.

4) I think it's the same as WindowsXP, as Athlon eXPeriance, but don't quote me on that.
