Athlon XP with Abit KT7A-Raid

I have an Abit KT7A-Raid v1.2 and I think I killed either the board or my 1.4 Tbird. I'm going to try replacing the chip with an Athlon XP and wanted to know what the fastest chip I could use would be. I know the XP isn't officially supported by the v1.2, but I'm going to try it. I dont think the Palomino will be a problem, but I wanted to get a Tbred. If it doesn't work I'll just get a new mobo.
Has anyone had experience with a KT7A and Athlon XP?
