athlon xp temperature

my uncle said that his athlon xp based computer generates lots of heat, enough to feel when he's next to the computer. Is this a cooling problem or to athlons just run hotter?

he should use something like motherboard montior to get a better idea of what exactly his temps are

The CPU isn't the only thing that generates heat inside the case. Everything from the Hard drive to the video card.
