Athlon XP steppings and core markings

I have an AthlonXP 1800+ "AGKGA" core and I was wondering if there are any better ones out there, or if this one is a good one to have.. Does anyone have a link for a good database on this thing? or personal experience with different steppings would be nice to hear from some people who have had different AXP's. I'm kinda curious what the potential is for my AXP.. I am not overclocking yet because of my cheap temporary memory, but I wanted to hear a few responses.. 😀 thanks ppl for any input! 🙂

AGKGA is the original stepping mass-distributed. AGOGA was intro'd when the XP-2000+ was unveiled, and that stepping now features on some lower spec chips. The 2100+ was intro'd on a AGOIA stepping, so that will probably cascasde down the range as well eventually. Newer revisions tend to O/C better as they refine the various manufacturing processes - so, if you have a choice go for AGOGA over AGKGA. Even better - AGOIA. (There are other steppings about like the AGLHA and the AGNGA, but the ones above are the main ones).

Cool. 🙂 thx

Actually I am now running the 1800+ at 2000+ and I haven't even tried higher... seems to run good.

the nice big 2000+ mark is good enough for me.. that's pretty sweet in itself.. thanks for the info though, i wanted to know some stuff like that...

I have a 1700+ (AGKGA) running at 2100+ speeds (158x11) without a problem, a friend of mine has an AGOGA which can't go any higher than 1900+ (146x11) on the same soyo board. A CPU's overclocking capabilities are more a matter of luck than steppings, colors, etc. Though the newer steppings are bound to be better due to the correction of bugs that the older ones had.

What are your voltage settings Freshbrain? My mobo only allows me to go up +0.1V (so to 1.85v), at that setting I can only get 10x158 or 11x144. Haven't got around to closing the (L7?) bridges so that I can raise the default voltage, but I'm curious whether I just got a bad 1700+ or if I may be able to get more out of this once I raise the voltage higher.
