I dont got a lot of cash, but i am able to get 2 512 pc2100 ddr memory sticks. they are generic and so called market grade. if i bought these, would it casue errors in my athlon Xp system? I heard athlon tbirds were very picky about this. Just wondering if the athlon xp is, and what my chances are of it having errors. BTW, these together are less then $100. and thats all i got right now.

come on people, i would like to know what my chances are of errors. i dont want to wast 100 bucks. PLEASE!!

I got 2 sticks of mwave pc2700 ($53) in my system. Decent if you dont wanna overclock much. I got mine runnin @ 340 DDR. Can't vouch for market grade 2100, but the 2700 is ok.

Personally I wouldn't trust the generic stuff because you have no idea what you're getting. I'd get something that has a credible name on it regardless of how cheap the generic stuff is.

well "technicallY' i don thtink it will cause a problem

...but the problem with generic sometimes, is that it wont perform like its suposed to
like it might start erroring becuase its just crap...

wherever you are gonna get it from, do they have a warranty of some sort?
or maybe ask them to test it with memtest86 loops before you buy it if possible?
or you buy it, test it, and have them agree that it will b ok if it errors out that htey return it or exchange it....

Probably generic will work just fine set to the slowest settings in the BIOS. People here generally want to OC or use faster settings. They figure that is worth some extra money.

The real difficulty is whether the seller backs it up, and if you have a problem, how will you be able to tell if it is the memory or not? Is it worth the aggravation and risk?
