So I ugpraded the gf's desktop with an Abit NF7-S Rev 2, 1GB OCZ DDR400 (basic stuff), and an XP-M 2500+.

It has been a LONG time since I've OC-ed an XP chip.

What are the safe voltage ranges and idle/max temps?

I was trying to reach 2.4GHz, but it wouldn't boot into Windows even with 2V on the CPU. And I'm assuming 2V is pushing it, LOL

Gonna go for 2.3GHz I guess, depending how high volts are needed. It did 2.2 pretty easily, so we'll see!

2v is FAR to much on air.
I would say 1.8v at the very max, 1.7v is comfortable since it's a mobile chip.

Are you sure it was the CPU limiting you, and not the RAM?

I thought that and bumped the RAM down to 100MHz (200 DDR). Either way, FSB is staying constant. The XP-M multi is unlocked :D

So have you tried 2.4 with the different ratios of multi * FSB?

like 12 * 200 and 14.5 * 166 etc .. It sounds like you know what you're doing so I'm sure you have, but just checking.

Why would I try different ratios? The bus should work at 200 either way right?

I'm planning on keeping the FSB at 200 no matter what chip clock. This system needs to be 100% rock stable, so I'm just looking for a little extra CPU horsepower ;)

Also, 2.3 was requiring over 1.8V and I figured for the extra 100MHz it wasn't worth the strain on the CPU/potential instability. Priming 200x11 @ 1.7V now, gonna drop the voltage down every 30 minutes of successful prime :)

Keep in mind AXP's were designed to run on higher voltages than A64's, so 2.0V isn't quite the same as if you put 2V on an A64 ;)

It looks like 200x11 is the sweet spot, about to drop to 1.675V ;)

i ran my xp-m 2600 @2580 12x215 with 1.95v on air(Thermalright SI-97) you should be able do 2400mhz 12x200 easy, with 1.75-1-8v

It wouldn't boot properly even with up to 2V.

All other settings were at optimized defaults and mem down to 100MHz just to be sure.

Other than voltage, any other thoughts for hitting 2.4?

what kind of PSU are you using? and BIOS settings? i had to manually change one of the settings in bios, from optimal CPU performance to aggressive, but i was using a Epox-8rda pro NF2.

It is a generic PSU, Powerman or somethign, I didn't even take that into consideration. Good point :)

As I said BIOS settings are all Optimized default except CPU. And I did set mem to 100MHz.

I just remembered there is some "Optimized" CPU mode or something, lemme turn that on and see about 200x12.
