I have a Soltek SL-75MIV2-L motherboard that has the option to change the CPU clock multiplier in the BIOS from 5-18. Whenever I try and change it from the default, the change appears in the BIOS, but the CPU still runs at it's default clock multiplier. This is a mobile Athlon XP CPU, and all mobile Athlon XP CPUs are supposed to be unlocked??? What could the problem possibly be? I have tried all kinds of different jumper settings on the motherboard, but it still refuses to use the multiplier I have set it to in the BIOS. I am trying to use a lower multiplier for a lower CPU internal clock speed for a low powered system, but the CPU will only run at it's default multiplier???? This is really making me angry as I went and bought this mobile Athlon CPU for the very reason that they are multiplier unlocked, yet it won't change the multiplier from it's default even though it saves the custom choice multiplier I set it to in the BIOS!!!!!

Any ideas why the heck this is happening?????

This bizzare outrageous problem that I only seem to be having is driving me crazy!!! Anyone have any ideas what the heck could be wrong!!! Everything seems to indicate how easy it is to adjust the CPU multiplier on an Athlon XP-M with a motherboard that has the option to adjust the multiplier in the BIOS which this motherboard I'm using does!!!!!

Actually, the code on the CPU indicates it's an Athlon XP-M 1400 which is what it said I had purchased, although it is detected as an Athlon XP-M 1900 when the DIP switch is set to CPU auto detect on my motherboard. If I set the DIP switch to 100MHz FSB, it detects the CPU as an Athlon XP-M 1200MHz which is what it's supposed to see it as. But it is weird that the motherboard detects it as an Athlon XP-M 1900 when the DIP switch is set to auto detect. I can now give you the stepping codes as I;ve taken the CPU out again in mere frusteration and hoping to find an answer to this problem.

The stepping codes are:

Does anyone have any idea why changing the multiplier won't work in the BIOS even though this is a mobile Athlon and all mobile Athlon CPUs are supposed to be unlocked. I'm desperate for an answer and waiting anxiously!!
