Athlon XP can go with which MOBO/chipsets and RAM?

I want to replace my celeron400a-Abitbx6rev2 with an Athlon XP processor and new MOBO. I am a little confused as to which chipset/FSB speed and type of ram I need to gather together. Do the higher frequency DDR RAM chips really make a difference etc? Would like to do some video editing with the new machine but don't want to pay a premium for marginally enhanced performance. Also want a mobo that has capability of regulating/powering down the fans (including power supply) when in sleep mode.
Thanks!!!

Well do you have a Budget set in mine??

For a Athlon look in the range of 1600+ to 2000+, they are all under $100 now

For a board get a Epox WITH the 8235 southbridge. This should give you 6Ch sound and USB 2.0

Ram, get good name brand DDR333 (PC2700), like Mushkin, Crucial.com etc...

Marlin1975 gave you an excellent suggestion. Here is my suggestion for a configuration that works well together..

Epox 8K5A2+ @ Mwave - $99
Athlon XP 1600+ @ Newegg - $55
512mb Samsung PC2700 DDR @ Kommax - $120

With this configuration, you can run the Athlon @ 166mhz (333mhz) FSB for a speed of 1.75ghz, and have the FSB and memory running synchronous boosting performance. I just helped a friend upgrade from a P2300 system to the configuration above, and he loves it. It was his first PC that he built himself, and I walked him through the whole way. If you need any help building when you make your choice, please feel free to send me a private message with any questions. :)

Don't forget to tell him about the crazy cooling he's gonna need with an OC'd XP :p
Add another $40 or so on for that. Even more for H2O.

No, I can't find an antenna to break off. All the cars around here have those stupid windshield antennas. :)

A $15 HS and no case fans... where do you live, Prudhoe Bay?

Nope, I live in New Hampshire, and ambient room temps are anywhere from 75F-80F. The 1600+ XP's run 166mhz FSB with no additional voltage. Please see this thread for more details.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!!!
I heard they're gonna raise the price of natural gas this winter so maybe I can heat the house with an overclocked MOBO!!!:)
