Athlon XP and Windows XP

To take advantage of the new instructions in the Athlon XP, do I need to do a fresh install of WinXP (meaning format, install)?
Or can I just re-install with the recovery option?

I really don't feel like formatting and re-installing all my apps.

TIA 😀

Well, to have the CPU operate, no fresh install of windows is needed.

But to take advantage of the new instructions, I think it is.
...and to have XP display my CPU as an Athlon XP 1600+ 😛

Do a reinstall without formatting over the top of what you got now and then install latest VIA(If you are using a VIA chipset that is) 4 in 1s' and you should be good without losing any thing..
