Athlon XP and MP question

What are the differences between the Athlon XP and MP processor, besides from the fact the MP is supposed to be used in multiple processor system configurations? If you used for instance a single processor MP system and compared it to an XP system of equal speed, which would have better performance?

They are the same chip. Performance is identical.
Supposedly the only difference is that the MP chips have their SMP circuitry tested and they are warrantied to work correctly in a dual system. The XP's don't have this circuitry tested.
Rumors are floating that AMD may start SMP 'locking' the XP chips meaning they will not work in a dual setup. This has yet to be confirmed.
The MP chips, so far, are shipping with their multipliers unlocked. The XP chips are multiplier locked.

I consider the SMP locking to still be a rumor as FiringSquad is the -only- site reporting this supposed locking.
