Athlon XP 3200+ or Mobile Athlon XP 2600+?

I currently run an Athlon XP 2500+ at 10x220. It runs perfectly but I cannot get it stable at 2.4GHz or above. I figure one of these chips will have better luck but I am not sure which. The 3200+ runs for about $140 and the 2600+ runs for about $107. I do not plan on upgrading to an Athlon 64 until around the end of the year or perhaps early 2005. Anyway, which would you rather have given my current system configuration?

It seems the Mobile Athlon XP's are the way to go for overclocking these days, the 35W 2400+ being the best, apparantly (note - no experience here, just noting what I read). As for those two though, not sure...
 
they will overclock the same max FSB since that depends on your motherboard.. But the mobile will be the better choice since you can lower or raise the multiplier and get a highier overall overclock..
 
The mobile would be the best choice for you and will reach higher speeds. From what I've experienced and what I've seen, the 35w 2400+ and the 45w 2600+ do pretty much the same. They may even be the same chip. I never tried running my old 2600+ at 1.8ghz and 1.35v, but I think it may have been able to do it. Much like how a lot of the A64 DRT mobiles can do the low voltages of the mobile A64s (not the 1.2v variety). The 35w 2400+ is cheaper, and will perform the same. That's the mobile worth buying, unless, of course, it's out of stock 🙂
 
I'd go with the mobile 2600 over the 3200. It is pretty effortless to get it to 2.5 GHz and running completely stable.
 
I domt rate the barton 3200+, should carry 2900+ at the most. get the mobile 2500+, lol how many times have we seen posts about " Overclock the 2500 + AXPM"
 
My opinion is you'd be tossing you money away of miniscule performance increases no matter the chip you got. Your already at 2200 mhz even if you hit 2500Mhz is it really worth $100+ dollars?

Save your money for a A64 system, as much as AMD charges you'll need it.
 
you've got 2.4GHz already.... i think the jump in speed is not noticable unless you just want to play with the chip..
 
It's a low wattage version of an athlon xp - usually used in laptops, but because of their low power rating, they make for excellent overclockers...

Agree. From a dollars and cents standpoint, I don't think its worth an upgrade. If you just want to tinker, thats a different story. You have 2200mhz now. I have to believe if your lucky, you'll get 2.5. Very lucky, you'll get 2.6. However, If I were to go for it, I'd go mobile.
 
Isn't the 3200+ running on a 200 MHz FSB stock already?
If that is the case and you want to test FSB limits (your RAM can go to 3700 maybe 4000, don't know about your mobo) go for the 3200+,
but it is probable that you'll hit FSB limits with the 2600 mobile as well...

No, I only run it at 2.2GHz...it will not remain stable at 2.4GHz...
