So, its not faster, ghz-wise, compared to the current 2700-2800+ T-breds. But the 512k of cache really makes it a 3000+ CPU?
Only time will tell (and bechmarks).

Yes, the extra cache certainly does. Wait for the review. :)

Not to be pushy, but:

When you do the review, would it be possible to also include information regarding heat dissipation and how much power it consumes? I'm curious whether or not the barton core will be any more efficient than the previous XP cores in terms of power consumption....

Evan, any rough ETA on the review? Do you guys have to wait for the official launch, I suppose?

Zounds! :Q And it's exciting to see the clock speed slowed down with an insane amount of cache on-board... the questions will come, and the beatings will ensue.

kidjan, Anand will likely cover that, yes.

mechBgon, yes we have to wait for the official launch. The Pricewatch ETA dates and rumored launch dates at The Inq are pretty close btw. :)

Is it true it's going to cost around $600+, according to Pricewatch? If so, AMD isn't undercutting intel anymore.

Well, you know Monday is coming up and Anand always has big reviews on Mondays and usually just a little before the official launch dates! :)

Sure they do. Performance doesn't equate to market demand or perceived value.

Who here is considering buying a 3000+ Barton for $600+ with their PERSONAL funds for their own PC???

I'm happy for now they released the Low-Bred B's, that'll tie me over until a stepping revision or two for the Bartons; then we'll see how much they're priced once Opteron/Hammer chatter increases.

Chiz, I agree with you. I'm happy that AMD released the Barton... not so I can buy one, but so it might drive down the prices of other processors. The low speed Tbred Bs should be fine for what I want a new computer for--just basic usage (no games). Doesn't anyone else think that processors are getting insanely fast? I mean... not for gamers (or media encoders or computational intensive programs--you can never be too fast there)..... but for the regular Joe who might play the occasional year-old game, write papers in Word, send email, browse the web... hell, even video caps are accomplished fine on a 1800+.

As far as AMD undercutting Intel... they've NEVER really done that on the top-o-the-line processor. I remember when AMD broke 1 GHz first... it was also the most expensive. It happens. The AMD 3000+ should probably cost the same as the 3.06HT. Big surprise. Personally, I don't care who makes it... I just care how it performs. It'll be interesting to see benchmarks..... and I'll think about getting one when they're, oh, $150. :)

Will you eat those words if it performs faster that the 3.06HT?

What do you suggest they do?

I don't see you complaining about the large performance delta between a Celeron MHz and a P4 Northwood MHz, ShowdOWN. Maybe Intel needs to stop using that MHz nonsense and adopt a PR system. ;)
