XP 2600 333FSB SOCKET A - OEM CPU (2.13.GHz) = $76
XP 2600 266FSB SOCKET A - OEM CPU (2.13.GHz) = $96

is there a reason why the processor with a faster FSB is cheaper than that of a lower one?
does it have to do with overclocking? im upgrading my motherboard to either an ASUS A7N8X-E (deluxe)
or an ABIT NF7-S or Abit AN7.... which CPU would be better?

thanks for any advice...

The 266MHz-based model is simply a rare item, and the stores charge more because it's rare. If your mobo didn't support 333MHz-based processors, you would have to pay their price or else buy a new mobo, so they figure they've got you over the barrel 😀

I would get the 333MHz-based one. FiringSquad did gaming tests with both variants and the 333MHz-based model performed better mostly. Make sure to get PC2700 RAM, or PC3200 or faster if you want to overclock.

thanks for the info. i will get the 333mhz one. right now i have 512MB PC2100 DDR.... is that not fast enough to overclock? and does it matter, out of the two you mentioned, if one will be that much faster? thanks again.

if you have a 333 mhz processor, at the least if you don't o/c you'll need pc2700 which is 166 x 2 or 333 effective

pc2100 is 133 x 2 or 266...

🙂

You probably can continue to use your PC2100 instead of buying new PC2700 or PC3200 - just not at the perfered 1:1 ratio, at 5:4 instead.
