I just installed this processor in my HTPC running MCE 2005. It shows both on boot and under device manager this way. The motherboard is a Shuttle MN31N if that matters.

Being an unknown type, could that mean that it might not use the processor to it's full ability?

Any idea how I can fix this?

it shouldn't have any effect on its performance, Mobiles normally show up as unknown, mine does.

the only way to fix it is with a BIOS revision, and none to date have fixed it for my nf7-s

Just as long as you've got a board that supports multiplier and/or FSB adjustments, it really shouldn't matter.
