Athlon XP 2500+ Overclocking?

Most XP2500's can be overclocked to XP2800 speeds without a voltage increase. Some of the older weeks required a voltage jump to go up to 2.20... and, some would go higher with more voltage, like to 2.3 or even 2.4 I've heard. But with the new revisions, and the XP3200 being out there and based on the same core, almost all XP2500's can hit 2.2 Ghz by just increasing the FSB to 200.

Yep, the 2500+ is a good chip. I have mine at 2.2Ghz right now with just a simple jump to 200fsb and no voltage increase.
Just make sure you get a decent mobo that has support for 200fsb and you should be fine. Even 3000+ should be attainable if you
don't have one of the latest mobos.

I have an ASUS A7N8X Ultra 400 Nforce 2. So it supports 400fsb. Rgith now im running an athlon xp 2000 @ 333fsb, because i have pc2700 ddr memory, 400fsb is out of the question.

I had three Bartons. Each one was going over 2.1 GHz (2800+ is 2.08 GHz) on default easy, and the temps were staying below 50C with Thermaright heatsinks like SK-7. Going to or over 2.2 GHz is a different matter, you'd need to increase voltage. Going 2.3 GHz is unlikely though with singificant voltage jump and top notch cooling not impossible.
So most likely, according to my experience, you will be anywhere between 2.1 and 2.2 GHz.

If your PSU, mainboard are up to it you're chances are excellent that you can run 3200+ speeds. It will get pretty hot under load with the stock cooler but that's actually not dangerous if the system is stable since the operational max is 85c. Heck, you may get lucky like some of us and be able to run 2.2-2.3ghz on default vcore or less, but for 2.2ghz the percentages are excellent as Jeff pointed out.

My Barton 2500+ has up to now been limited by my memory. I've had the chip up to 2250MHz at default Vcore and it was stable enough to run a loop of 3DMark2001 for a few hours. Next week I'll have an NF7-S r2 and some Corsair PC3500, I can't wait to see what I can get with that gear.

ok cool, but like i said before all i need is 2.167ghz. My memory wont allow for a higher fsb then 333.

To get that you need a multiplier of 13, and some motherboards won't let you go that high without modifying the CPU... some only let you go to 12.5, which would give you 2.08.

The ABIT NF7-S overcomes this. There may be other motherboards that do as well but I can't say for sure. This is one of the reasons I bought an NF7-S, I can't wait to see how high my 2500+ can go.

Same goes for my Soltek NF2 boards and Shuttle SN45G as well
