Athlon XP 2400+ true MHz

I've always thought that Athlon XP 2400+ CPUs ran at 2.0GHz. Was just at Pricewatch and looked up the CPU. Prices started at around $55 shipped, but I noticed that a lot of them advertised the CPU as running 1.93GHz instead of 2.0GHz. Did AMD actually make CPUs at this speed marked 2400+ or are these some kind of remarks?

The desktop (non-mobile, Thoroughbred core, 256k of cache) XP 2400+ chips have a default clock speed of 2.0Ghz.

The newer mobile (Barton core, 512k of cache) have a default clock speed of 1.8Ghz (but usually overclock to around 2.2Ghz - 2.4Ghz).

I'm pretty sure I've never seen a 2400+ with a clock speed of 1.93Ghz.

Nevermind😕...but the 2400 have always been @ that speed (133.3x14.5)...166.6 x12 would be a 2GHzer 😉

It prolly is 133.3 x15 ...I just look it up on my AMD tool proggie and both 15x and 14.5 equates to a XP 2400 as I've only installed one so to answer your ? "I dunno " and still confused 😉

IIRC, there were two desktop Athlon XP2400+ CPUs. One ran on the original 266Mhz DDR FSB, and another on the newer 333Mhz DDR FSB. The one on the slower FSB had a higher internal clock speed to compensate, so they ended up at the same PR rating.

Hmm, I thought that was it, but calculating it out.. 166.6 Mhz x 12.0, or 133.3Mhz x 15.0, both come out to ~2000Mhz exactly. Strange.

So which A-XP CPU was it, that had that issue? Was it the 2400, or something else? Was it a slightly slower-clocked Barton chip instead, with the extra L2 cache making up the difference to reach the same PR rating? I think that's probably more likely, I don't know offhand what the default clock rates were for the 266Mhz FSB and 333Mhz FSB Barton chips.

The Barton 2600+ is 1.93GHz, and is the only chip I can think of that runs at that speed.

the only thing i can think of is that the jump from 133->166 equates some kind of performance increase

so that 133 x 15 = 2000mhz = 2400+
but maybe 166 x 11.5 = 1933 = 2400+ ?
