i had not planned to overclock this but i want to do it now, i have upgraded the heatsink and fan for the cpu but did not put any thermal paste. how fast do you think i can get this cpu to run? i put the fsb up slowly to about 135 and its running at 1.7 and before i go on i wanna see if you guys have any suggestions for this mobo and cpu on how to overclock it. should i keep changing the fsb or start changing the multipliers. thanks

put the fsb to 138 and it ran at xp 2100+ but after xp started i got a blue screen of death, put the fsb to 137 and seems stable but its at 1.71 ghz, not much of an overclock

my xp 2100+ acts much like your xp2000+
i'm can get it stable at 138FSB..but thats like not even worth overclocking lol
i have palomino i think...i heard they are very weak overclockers. so i'm stuck wtih it for now
your best bet is to unlock the chip and then try to OC it.

Has nothing to do with the chip... your motherboard doesn't have a PCI lock, when you get up around 138 the PCI bus gets out of spec and you get data corruption on the hard drive. Hard drives are very sensative to the PCI frequency.

Did your new heatsink have the "Thermal Pad"? It's a square of dull grey, pink or white stuff. If you put the heatsink on the processor with only bright shiney metal on the bottom of the heatsink, turn the computer off until you get a thermal interface between the heatsink and processor core.
