Hi,

I have this old comp lying around that I want to optimize for full performance.
I have a MSI KT3V Mobo which has max FSB support of 333MHz. I am presently using an Athlon XP 2000+ of 266MHz FSB. I want to upgrade this existing proc to either of the ones below. I would appreciate it any one could rank the following procs :

AMD Sempron 3000+ [Socket A 130-nm 2.0 GHz 512KB-L2 FSB333]
AMD AthlonXP 2800+ [Socket A 130-nm 2.083 GHz 512KB-L2 FSB333]
AMD AthlonXP 3000+ [Socket A 120-nm 2.167 GHz 512KB-L2 FSB400]
AMD AthlonXP 3200+ [Socket A 120-nm 2.2 GHz 512KB-L2 FSB400]

Thanx,

Fzkl

I'd go with the XP-M also. But with your MB being 333MHz limited, you may not get much better than stock 2800+ speeds.
Is your MB limited to only 333MHz "support", or will it go no higher than 333? Some MBs have "official support" less than they can actually run.

Well, without overclocking an AMD Athlon 3000+ @333 would be the fastest due to the fact you stated that your MB only supports 333 fsb max & the max cpu supported is a barton 3000+ with that MB using BIOS v. 1.7 or later :)

I am afraid a mobile athlon xp is not a solution for me. I have a choice only between these 4 procs that I listed. That is why I wanted a performace wise ranking. Kindly help.

AMD AthlonXP 2800+ is the best for your motherboard, since it is fastest of the four you listed on a FSB333.

With the AMD Sempron 3000+ the second fastest.

The other 2 processors woudl be slower than those if they are running on a FSB333.

I have a AMD AthlonXP 3000+ [Socket A 130-nm 2.167 GHz 512KB-L2 FSB333] , maybe you could try to get one of those. The fastest processor for a 333FSB socket A motherboard

Thanx for the info all of you. Is there any way I can confirm the FSB speed of the proc by looking at the packing box of the proc? Is this mentioned on the box?

I last got an AMD retail CPU about October 03. It had the cpu's FSB listed on it (the box).

If you can open the box to the see the stepping codes, They will also tell the CPU's FSB.

HERE'S info on stepping codes (what they mean).

Get the cheaper of the cpus here. 2800+ XP or 3000+ Sempron

There is only about 80mhz difference between the 2. So, get the one that is cheaper.
