What temperature should my Athlon XP 2000+ be running at? I want it to last and I would like to know if I should get a better heatsink. It usually runs at about 48 - 49, but the weather has been extremely hot lately for the season.

Here are my specs:
Soltek SL-75DRV5
Athlon XP 2000+
Thermaltake 6cu+ heatsink

well, thats what the amd whitepapers say - but i often wonder if letting it actually run that hot is good for its lifespan. personally, i wouldnt be comfotable with anything higher than 55C

I'm running a 2000+ oc'd to 1812 (12.5x145) w/ an 8045 and Panaflo H1A plus 4 case fans (see sig for complete rig info). Temps at full load are typically 51-52C.

i think anything up to 55C-60C is OK, but not great

under 50C would be a comfort level for me personally, but you are definitely ok at 48-49, ive had one up to 58C and it still ran fine (4 hours...not a long time, but long enough)

my xp 1900 is running at 48 c right now, with no load, and about 52.5 c at full tilt. my h/s fan runs at about 2700 rpm, and has 30 cfm of air movement. couple case fans too. not that loud, but not that cool either.

FlippyBoy,

31C load on an Athlon chip can't be expected save sub10C case temps or a poor reading socket-thermsitor.

on my board there is a sensor right under the cpu. the boot dia gives it @ 29C also in sisoft sandra. hehe what fans i'm usin. default fan on the 8045 but i got 2 x 120mm sunon fans gettin in on the action. one blowing right into the side of the hs and the other sat above it suckin the air out through the top of the case.

<< The XP processors are known to run safely up to 90C. >>

is that for real? i'd think at that temp... ur cpu would be in flames :p
anyway, i was just wondering about temps of an xp2000+ too, becuz mine is reading 49C at reboot. that sound about right?

My XP 1700+ AGOGA 0208 runs 24/24 7/7 from 2 months @ 1800 Mhz (200*9), 1.95volts, akasa s.m.+ sunon ptbx 80cm with funadapter 3, at 64 / 65 C°. Not a single problem. And i'm not concerned at processor's lasting, i will surely change it before the end of the year, so who cares if duration is shortened (i never kept a processor for more then one year :D)

Note : MoBo is Epox 8K3a, i don't' know how accurate is the temp reading...
