Athlon XP 2000 runs too fast! Abit NV7-133R MB

Has anybody had any experience with their system running too fast? I upgraded to the AMD AthlonXP 2000 with a Abit NV7-133R motherboard and still using Windows 98. My system started to race as in everything it did occurred blindingly fast. The second hand on the clock would take 12 seconds to travel one revolution. It was not humanly possible to double click fast enough to open a file. Those irritating, flashing popups were a blur. My first thought was heat so I loaded the case with fans and air simply gushes out. the system runs at about 48 degrees C. I appreciate any light anyone can shed on this perplexing problem.

So, you are saying your new system is running fast. What's the problem? 48 C is not too hot. The temp is just fine. Is your system unstable or are you simply "amazed" at how fast your system is running?

Don't use the nforce with 9x based OS'es it isn't pretty. Use win XP or 2000 instead.

There is a problem with these OS'es being able to read the system timers correctly, so when an offending app (usually an internet/networking or game) triggers the problem, the system clocks runs about three times faster than they should.

Hi Gstanfor. Thanks for the insight. That sounds exactly like the problem I've been having. Fast is nice but what good is it if you can't open files. Considering the speed of my Windows clock I figured it was scooting along at 5 times what it should.
