i recently brought a amd athlon xp 2000+, for some reason my computer is freezing when it's idle @ 52C. Why is this happening? I've read in some fourms that some ppl have their cpu @ 60C and it's rock stable. plz help me... thnx

Might be your power suppy. I put up a post about using a 2000 XP with a 350 cause I heard it might not be stable, but I like to check anandtech just to be certain.

A 350 watt power supply should be enough with a xp 2000+...I have seen many with this or even less. This may be a quality power supply issue...

Definitely sounds like a potential power issue. I agree I think heat should not be a factor at 52c idle, though that is a bit high. What mobo??

Power supply is one of the usual suspects, other culprits might be a driver or O/S program. Wht's the OP SYS, and when did you last run an update? Some of the WinXP's will hang until an update corrects them. Service Pack 1 came out for XP yesterday, and its a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGG download.

Well.. thanks for the replys and i will try to update my winxp to see it thats the case.. and btw my mobo is an ECS K7S5A
