I have a Athlon XP 2000+ with the retail heat sink/fan on an A7N8X deluxe. Asusprobe, the bios, Sisoft Sandra are showing temps of about 50C (idle) for the cpu (vs. 28C for the motherboard).
This is stable for the moment, but I foresee that it won?t be when summer arrives and the room heats up to 80F?the computer is essentially in a corner with little air flow (and staying there). I?ve already tried cleaning all the dust out last summer, which brought the temperatures down from crashing to stable, but that was really just a band-aid solution. I have three case fans in the computer already.
It?s been a few years since I put this together, so please walk me through the process of bringing the cpu temperature down. If I need to move to artic silver I will, but that being the case please suggest an easier-to-install heatsink/fan replacement because I do NOT want to have to reattach AMDs ?impale your motherboard with the screwdriver? version that came in the retail kit.
