I got my koolance set up, I was running into a brick wall at 2100 mhz, now I'm at 2500 mhz stable at 2.2 volts -- excessive? How long do you think it will last? Back in the day I had an Athlon 700 mhz tbird that I clocked to 1000 mhz - again using excessive voltage, it lasted the entire functional lifespan that I was using it (about 1 year). I've heard about northwood deaths after high voltages, but none for Athlons (none that didn't fry due to say, improper heatsink application or it 'fell' off).

It's stable in hundreds of prime95 iterations -- that's what I count for stability -- any errors and it isn't stable.

I think I would keep an extra CPU on stand by. At 2.2V that chip is bound to fail soon and the 65c definitly cannot help. People here have killed XP1700s with as low as 1.85V. I belive Shimmishim did at least once, but I may be wrong. I am surprised the chip OCd that far will run at that temperature.

considering you can pick up 2500+ bartons for around $100, what's the point? :) Besides that it's dang cool.

Put that it is running at 2.2V in the title. I am sure that will get a lot more people in here.

i wouldn't recommend doing that, unless you want your chip to go the way Soulkeeper's chip went

:) ... CPU's are like women .. you want one to last dont make it do something that it isnt sposed to do .. go for a CPU then make it do what the best of the best does .. ie: .. 2.23Ghz .. 2800+ 3000+ u will feel like you have the top AMD CPU around .. that u do .. and it will not break your heart in a month or two .. when it dumps u ....

AND !!! like girls ... after a while you can just upgrade to a better one that will go at 2.5Ghz no porblem hehe

unless you really require the 2.5Ghz for a good reason then whats the point ? does it make your games run any better then they already are .. ? what for a reason then overclock .. dont just do it for the fame it bring u because thats always short lived .....

Danger will robinson! Danger! 1.85v should be your max, 1.9 if your crazy. 2.2 if your insane.

lol
yah put @ 2.2Vcore in the title and more will come probably

anyways, way too freaking much voltage if you want it ot last ;)

:Q

i've never killed a chip due to excessive voltage!!!! HOW DARE YOU!!!

:)

my 1700+ is still running smoothly at 2.4 ghz w/o a hiccup... at 1.8 volts or 1.74 actual volts... no complaints on this end...

i MAY have killed one but that was due to human error... i.e. chipping the core with my waterblock...

i was able to get a 2400+ to 2533mhz @ either 2.1 or 2.15v with sub zero pelt/water cooling (basically yur situation)
i then decided the water cooling system was too loud so i lowered it to 2.33 with my slk-800 and 2.05v (much lower temps than what yur currently at) and it still fryed
nomatter how cool you run them the voltage will kill the cpu in time

i fryed a 1700+ at 1.86v
i've fryed t-breds between 1.86v and 2.2v now i try to keep my vcore under 1.8v if i can

as far as how long it might last
in my experience the less you reboot the longer it will last

one day you'll just go to turn it on and the os won't load
they go out like light bulbs being turned on
and once the damage is done there is no undoing it
with the .13u manufacturing process they can only take so many uses at eccessive voltages

i'll be supprised if you last longer than a week at that voltage and temp

good luck, enjoy the ride !!!
hehehe

Power 2 the People !!! ... why do u want that power in a CPU ... do u have money for a new one if it blows these are the things u should ask yourself wiether u want to leave it at 2500Mhz

You, my friend, are insane. In this day and age, there is not much of an excuse to overclock, as AMD CPU's are cheap as hell. This is BESIDES the fact that 2.5ghz is WAY excessive. 2.0ghz is enough for most everything right now, so why not just leave it there? It's becoming a game now, where people go around showing off their o/c's. It's insane. Back in the day, it made sense, but with computers as powerful as they now are, I don't see why so many people do it. It's a big contest. 2.2V is WAY too much, 65C, while relatively safe, is NOT a good temperature, and myself I would not feel safe with either of these. 2.5 ghz is nice, but why not wait until games and stuff actually need that kind of power?

Yeah 65C is a little [WAY] on the hot side. 2.2VCore = REALLY excessive even if you are running at 2.5GHz. Someone said that the rate at which you have to increase the voltage compared to the number of MHz you gain gets really crazy once you get into the higher numbers...

My 1700+ B is running rock solid @ 2.2GHz with 1.584 VCore and I'm satisfied. None of that 2.3+ janx for me.

Some ScienceMark 2.0 benches (I suppose I have to be a bit gaudy and rely on a benchmark that I helped write, heheh)
3150 MFLOPS x87 (Double Precision)
5703 MFLOPS 3dNow (Single Precision)

70.63 seconds Molecular Dynamics (default)
411.3 seconds Primordia (Ag)

on 333 mhz bus nforce2 - 1 Gig of RAM.

I haven't tweaked out the memory, but it won't go to 400 mhz, unfortunately without instability problems in prime95.

Temp has gone down to 60 degrees C and stable.

Thanks for the inputs folks -- I'll see how long this thing runs at the high voltages before dying. I don't really mind blowing another $60 for another CPU anyway -- they're so frigging cheap these days, and I also have a spare CPU (another 1800+ palomino) that I can use if I get assed out before I can purchase another one.
