Athlon X2 64 QL-62 -- how does this laptop CPU stack up to Intel laptop CPUs and Core 2 Duos?

I'm thinking about getting a laptop with an Athlon X2 64 QL-62 CPU but I have no idea how it compares to Intel Core 2 Duos. This would be for a cheap laptop so I'm not expecting too much, but I'm trying to evaluate whether or not it's a decent deal.

Would it beat out a Pentium T3200 (which isn't a Core 2 Duo)?

Hmm, the T3200 is 2ghz, right? I'm pretty sure they're equals seeing as the athlon/turion was equal to the core duo (also known as pentium dual-core).

I have a 2ghz turion and it's a nice little cpu. I think the mobile amd cpus are underrated.

The Pentium T3200 is Merom based, just with 1MB of L2. On the desktop, the 1MB L2 Conroe-based Pentium E2000 series generally match up well with A64 X2s with 2x512KB L2 clocked 15% higher. The Intel based notebook will probably also use less power but the AMD notebook will probably have better integrated graphics.

I was pretty sure the QL-62 had a TDP of 25w. That's what it says on AMD's website. The T3200 has a TDP of 35w. So I'm not sure which one uses more/less power?

The QL is better in terms of TDP "25w vs <35w" and integrated graphics are also better. People tend to think AMD mobile processers are hotter just because of initial TURION's and not the series such as ML, QL, etc.

Also the 62 is a piece of work its cooler than the 60 or the 64 its a very good overall performer and you can expect to play games like DOOM3 without much lags but at a lower detail setting off course and given that the laptop is based on a Mb that has 3300 integrated.

Intel uses the 35W TDP value for a wide variety of processors, up to the 2.6GHz T7800. Given the clockspeed and voltage of the T3200, I'd expect it to use at most 20W and only when running something like two threads of Prime95.
