Athlon Thunderbird vs Athlon

Ok I give. What the heck is the difference between these? I'm seeing big price differences and I'm not quite sure why. For example, I saw an Athlon 1 ghz for $319 and saw an Athlon Thunderbird 1.2 for $269.

Then to make things a bit more confusing I saw two Thunderbirds. Same clock speed but different price. One said something about 200 mhz (I'm assuming fsb is what it's referring to) and 266.

ok. here we go.

The Tbird are the new socketA format ahtlons made with copper at .18um. They are both cheaper and faster. SlotA, the old athlons are outdated and virualy dead. they have no future and will soon be totally discontinued. THey are also slower than the Tbirds.

The tbirds come in to varieties nowadays. 200 and 266 FSB the latter are newer and more expensive and are made to run at 133mhz DDR bus for use witht he new KT133a, AMD760, Ali magik and VIA KT266 chipsets (the last three support DDR ram)

Answers it well. Thanks. Since I'm getting the a7v133 motherboard I definitely have my eye on the Tbird that supports 133 fsb so this is good to know. Thanks.

Just remember if you get a 1.2ghz chip its unlocked and can run at 100 bus 12 multi or 133bus 9multi right out of the box
