Hi

So here is the problem :

A couple of days ago I upgraded my rig to:
AMD Thunderbird 1333 MHz FSB(266)
Asus A7V133 and
Asus GeForce 2 (32 Mb) AGP-V7700

and I instaled Asus Smart Doctor and it shows that the VGA temp is aproximetly 61 to 65C = 146F
and Asus Probe shows that CPU is 61 to 71C and MB temp=41 to 49C

The question is : is this level of temperature normal?
P.S.
NO overclocking has been DONE , what so ever...

Thanx for replys...

hmm...60-70 C is HOT. did you buy retail cpu? and therefore you're using the retail fan?

my 1.2 gig tbird with retail HSF runs about 48C.

The asus mobo will run reported temps about 8 degree higher then other socket a mobo (long topic discussed multiple times)...

I think however the mobo temps are quite a bit high and if you had some case cooling it may have a dramatic effect on bringing some of those numbers down...

You should be happy with low 50's idle not low 60's...

Does that asus 7700 have a HSF? Maybe upgrade that with a better cooling system...that card is probably pumping some pretty good heat into case and if you don't exhaust it out quickly it may be the culprit to the high mobo temps since the case temps might be high...I got a 120mm case fan mounted on the side blowing directly accross all my pci cards...good high flow relatively low audible panaflo fan...My case temps are 1 degree above room temperature...when I unplu it my system temps rise 2 more degrees and cpu nearly 3 degrees at idle...

forgot to mention the side fan greatly reduces the temp of my vid card though...which is its main function anyways since 3 degrees c with my cpu is not much...

Should have at least 2 case fans besides the PS...IMO..one intake at lower front and 1 in rear exhausting heat...60-80mm fans minimum

I did not buy a retail CPU , it is an OEM one.
I don't know what type of cooler it has, because the case is sealed, if I remove it , there is no warranty...

It is a sticker with the date and the rest of the data , if I remove the cover, it breaks and I void my warranty...
It is that simple

Isn't it stupid?

how can u buy an OEM cpu and install it in a sealed case, which remains sealed after u install the cpu?

u just said u upgraded, thus the case is NOT sealed...or u've no idea what u're saying...or u got it upgraded
from an authorized dealer of that brand of computer who sealed it after...

whcih is it?

do u have case cooling fans....most importantly, an exhaust fan directly behind the cpu..the others are rather unimportant regardless of what others might tell u ("yeah, i run 10 fans in my case and i have continuous ringing in my ears but i got my cpu to drop 1 celcius under load!")

1 intake fan will drop your mobo temp several degrees, but probably not your cpu much if any...

if u have to, break the warranty...also, u may be under the impression that if u open the case and break the seal the warranty is void when really it's not...i thought so from the seal of my girl's hewlett packard, but i actually read the little seal and it says, "warranty not void if removed"...and the manual has upgrading instructions inside, so...

AHHHH..you mean your "computer case" is sealed.

did you buy it from a reputable company?

i know for a FACT that gateway and Dell for instance put those stickers on their boxes to DISCOURAGE opening them up, but it actually DOES NOT void the warranty.

well, if your computer came pre-built then i wouldnt't worry about your heat and stuff. i'd hope whoever built it new what they were doing.

I did not upgrade it myself, this how it works in Latvia:

1. You bring your computer to the company , where you buy the new components.
2. You tell them what you want.
3. You pay the money.
4. After a couple of days(1-3) you take your box home.

End of Story

P.S.
And by Default, you are supposed to be a happy camper.
Stupid is it not?

well, amd i believe says tbirds running UNDER 75c should be allright, so the real question for you is:

ARE YOU HAVING HEAT-RELATED ISSUES?

if not, then i wouldn't worry....especially if it's under warranty!

if your case temps or cpu temps are not bad from the beginning you wont see much...however if I shut down one fan in my case of 3 fans not including the PS I can see a swing of 2-3 at idle...so I believe IMO it can effect the cpu...warm case air will just be used to blow on already warm cpu HS and the process of cooling doesn't work as effectively...get case temp as near to room temp as possible, then if you still have temp issues with cpu it will be related to the quality of the HSF or the process of seating the HSF done by the company...

I just turned on the System Monitor in Win98SE and saw that the Processor USAGE is 100%99% of the time.
What coul cause this kind of load on the CPU?

the problem is that the normal temp given by amd is for the core and since no socket a directly measures that, who knows what a 62c plus at I assume average play (have you full loaded it???) constitutes to core temperature..

stabile??? run it full load for quite a while and watch for any issues...if none forget about it...
