Hey guys, I have this problem

Ever since I got an Athlon back in the day I had trouble getting my DVD to play a movie, it would come up with a Rage 128 Authen. Error message. It wasn't much of a problem, I just ran the AMD-VIA patch with the ATI Drivers and it went away... (I have ABIT KA7 w/ Via 133 chipset). Anyhoo, now I downloaded some newer ATI Drivers after I formatted my primary drive the other day, ever since then I cant get my DVD to play a movie, the patch doesnt work now, and I tried re-installing old drivers - no luck. I have tried many other things, to many to list.... but no luck, I can't believe I cant fix this, I feel retarded... well, has anyone heard of this ? Can you help me please ! Thanks !!!

Detailed Hardware Just in Case
AMD Athlon 650MHz
ABIT Ka7, newest BIOS Update VIA KX133
Hitachi 5x 3rd Gen DVD Drive
ATI Rage Fury 32MB SGRAM TV-Out AGP2x

Please help !!

Okay, couple of things here . . . ATI thought it would be neat if they changed the name of the actual driver files every once in awhile. So, there's a file called . . . aw crap, what is the name of it . . . atiptaxx.dll, or something like that, and a file called atiptaaa.dll . If you're using an older version of ATI's dvd player it's gonna expect one or the other of these - I'm not sure which 'cause my computer with the ati card is back at college and I'm home on break right now. Anyway, try searching for files with these names or similar names . . . copy whichever one you find and change its name to the other I listed here, then paste it back into that directory along with the original. That sometimes works.

If you don't have these files or it doesn't work . . . try turning on 16 bit color or lowering the resolution.

If that doesn't work either . . . my version of ATI's dvd player works in 98 and in Milennium if I upgrade from 98, but not if I do a full ME install. Do a clean install of 98 and put on the old drivers first, then update with the newer drivers.

If that also doesn't work . . . well, the ATI site tells ya you need a newer version of their dvd player and they're not allowed to distribute it over the internet, so you'll have to buy an updated version of it from them. Sometimes, I really hate their tech support . . . hmph. Anyway, hope this helps.

make sure u load up the latest drivers from via's site. They help take care of a lot of problems. Load up the latest drivers fro ur rage card and try playing the movie again. Also check the settings of ur dvd player. Somethin might be awry.

Heh, you want lazy? I decided to buy a new video card a few days ago. My choices were either a 32 meg radeon card or a 32 meg GTS or MX card (depending on the price I could find). I took the GTS route because I felt their software dvd decoder would jerk me around less than ATI would. :D Seriously.
