Hello all, my first visit to this site. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, so if it isn't please let me know. I am thinking of building and Athlon system, probably around 800 mhz.I have no intentions of overclocking. I would like to know why AMD reccomends such high power supplies for their Duron and Athlon processors, if they run at such low voltages. Also does anyone have any reccomendations as far as a motherboard and memory.
Thanks in advance, Beaming in Middlebury, VT

High speed Gigahertz Thunderbirds consume a lot of power and adding to the fact that you may use lotsa devices(i.e. cdroms, cd-rw, dvd, nics, etc) getting a 300W(minimum) PSU is definitely a must. My recommendations are MSI K7T Pro 2 and Crucial RAM.

Biggs is right... see if you can get a good power supply... and the mother board is my choice at the moment too... i am planing on building something similar... so what i would do if i needed to buy now, i would get some mushkin Ram and i might get their case too... it says that it is black at their site... but i know that they offer it in white too... there is another store selling that case... lost the link sorry... but here is Mushkin...they have a nice case... and an athlon approved PS... + great ram...so i am stil waiting for ddr... hope to see some new boards till April... then i need to buy...so good luck...

in case you need to buy just a PS I can tell you that i haven't had any problems with Fortron/Source and with Enlight Corp. both of them had nice quiet fans inside and worked...

Antec is well known too... never had an antec ps so...
