Athlon oc ?:Why would it work at 710 (109X6.5) at 1.65 volts but require 1.75 volts to work okay at 700 (100X7.0)??

I have a 550 core Athlon that I had at 700 using a GFD. It was working great for a few hours running some benchmarks etc. Then I tried restarting, and it wouldn't post. Voltage maybe? Right now, it's at 696 (6.5*107) and it's working great.

I would figure that it should take the same voltage if it worked like that overclocking the fsb. Someone know something I don't?

Spoooon- What voltage were you running at 700? I think you should be at 1.7v or so for that speed. I had a similar problem with on my KA7-100. It would work fine for a long time and then it wouldn't post for a couple of minutes, then it would be fine. I never figured it out, and then it just stopped happening. I think the KA7 "RY" bios is a little fruity sometimes, after all it is a beta....It seems to happen when running a new speed, it is almost like it needs to get used to it. I just saw a special on a "classic" Athlon 900 tested at 1050 for only $325. Have you considered picking up a higher clocked one like a 700 now that they are cheap? I have heard of several 700's with the 900 core. Good luck...

BTW- What GFD did you get and how do you like it?

I got the Leufken's from http://www.millisec.com for 28 bucks. It's okay. I don't like the jumpers on it, but you only mess with it the one time and then you don't have to worry about it. If I were buying another one though, I would look for one that didn't need to be plugged into the power supply.

Right now, I have my comp running 109X6.5 getting me 710mhz. I upped the voltage to 1.7 and everything seems to be okay. I'm going to try changing the multiplier on the gfd and seeing what happens. My cpu has been running pretty cool. About the same temps as it was clocked at default before I put my blowholes in.

At http://www.athlonoc.com they have a link to a store that's selling a few 700s with 900 cores. Maybe if my paycheck is large enough...;)

Well, I seem to have settled on 7.0X109 giving me 763MHZ. Not too shabby for my .25 550 core athlon. I bet I can get 800. But, I'm going to stick with this for a while.

I think the .25micron core will require more voltage than a similar clocked .18micron... That is still a good overclock for a model 1
Athlon.
