athlon laptop

One of my friends is looking for a new laptop. I'm trying to convince her to go with an Athlon system ( I love the Athlon I have now) but she's having doubts about switching from Intel because it is the only cpu company most people are familiar with.

Do any of you know of good reasons why one should switch to an AMD system or conversely stick with Intel? Suggestions as to the best Athlon laptop are also welcome

The biggest advantage, and one of the few advantages I see to an AMD based mobile platform is that AMD's PowerNow is significantly better then Intel's SpeedStep and dramatically reduces power consumption to the levels on which it can be quite competitive against Intel despite higher typical and maximum power consumption.
In some scenarios in which the processor utilization is going to be relatively low such as office applications, then AMD processors often will be less of a burden on battery life solely because of PowerNow!, which given the thermal characteristics of the competing processors is a very positive aspect to AMD.
