So I have a mini-itx system (Sugo SG05) I built using an Asus M4A88T-I Deluxe. Asus PC Probe reports CPU temperatures of 38C idle, 44C load. However, Core Temp and AMD Overdrive report the CPU Core temperatures to be 66-68C idle, and 72-74C load. Heatsink is a Scythe Big Shuriken (the 120mm low profile).

I've also measured the heatsink temperature using an infared read, but it's pretty crowded in the case and can't get a really good shot (the reading of the heatsink I got was 33C at idle). I took everything out and reseated the heatsink a couple times just to check the thermal paste (OCZ Freeze) spread.

I think the PC Probe readings seem to be more reasonable than the Core Temp readings, but I wanted to see what other people think.

How hot does the heat sink feel?

Yeah, ... literally touch it. It should be warm but not scalding.

It's definitely cool to the touch which is reflected in the infrared temp gun readings.

What boggles me is that the thermal paste spread looks like the heatsink is making decent contact with the heatspreader (I use a tiny ball of paste and let the pressure of the heatsink installation spread the paste naturally). I have redone it twice just to check.

The last thing I can possibly think of is going to try the stock heatsink, just to see if that makes a difference.
