Athlon II X3 435 temps

Firstly, I've got this thing OC'ed to 3.5GHz (14x250...can't get it going any -_-) at 1.475 VCore. I'm using a Freezer 64 Pro with MX-2 thermal paste. I've got this rig running Boinc 24/7, and AMD OverDrive is reporting temps of 35C on each CPU core. I'm a little worried because I can't seem to find the temp of the entire CPU, only each individual core. Should I be concerned? I don't experience any hang ups, I just don't want to slowly cook my CPU.

On a side note, I also have my Radeon 4870 chugging away on Boinc 24/7. With the stock cooler set to 35% fan speed I'm seeing temps in the low-mid 80C range. I've read of people getting significantly lower temps with this card with the stock cooler, is there something I'm missing here or are they just running the fan at a higher speed? As with the CPU, I don't want to cook my GPU.

I would not worry about it too much. Max temp for that processor is 72c.

Your processor is doing great, but your GPU seems a little too high for me. You may not want to limit the fan at 35% if it is reaching those temps. Maybe be a little bit more generous with the fan speed? Maybe going 60% can pick off a good number of degrees there.

I would, but even 40% is too loud for my liking. I've read that these cards are 'safe' in the 90~100C range, so I'm just wondering if mid-80s is going to be a problem.

EDIT: 60% fan speed gets me down to 70~72C.

Bah, completely forgot to mention that I have the 4870 OCed to 825/1100.

35C won't cook anything, and in any event the CPU case temp will always be lower than the individual core temps if they are reporting correctly. Note that if you've turned on ACC in an attempt to unlock the 4th core they are likely not reporting correctly. If that's the case, turn it off momentarily to get an idea of the real core temps.

In AOD, the CPU case temp can be found by clicking on the "Status Monitor" tab, then the "Board Status" sub-tab, then looking directly underneath the individual core temps on the right. (On my board it is relabelled "ASUS_CPU_TEMPERATURE" in AOD. Your label may vary, but that's where to look.)


GPU temp is on the high side, but nothing to be concerned about damage-wise. You might want to consider using "Ati Tray Tools" or other software that will allow you to automatically adjust the GPU fan speed based on temperature profiles.

Thanks for the info. I have tried ACC, but the computer crashes whenever I try to load Windows with the 4th core enabled so I figure it's defunct. AOD shows the CPU temp as 48~49C, while each individual core is ~33. Is it normal for all of the cores to report the exact same temperature all the time?

Stuck temps are often symptoms of ACC having been enabled. (I've also seen them read as -256C, or start at a semi-believable value and drift down towards 0C.)

If you've turned ACC off again already, try resetting the CMOS. Also ensure you're using the latest BIOS version for your motherboard.

The core temps are closer to the heat source and always higher than the CPU temp at load. They might be relatively constant, but they should fluctuate at least a little bit.

Edit: Yes, all three cores will usually have similar (though not identical) temps to each other, if that's what you're asking.

Never mind then, I hate loud annoying whirring noises from fans as well. Leave it at that and call it good. No harm done.

AOD reads -127C next to "TMPIN2" and -294.7C next to "TMPIN4", so I think you're right. It doesn't really bother me, but could this be affecting my overclock? From what I gather 3.5GHz is pretty low for these chips.

Yup, that's what I was asking. It's showing identical temps on all 3 cores at all times.
