Athlon FX + P4 EE

Just get a 3700/4000 San Diego or 3800 Venice, and put the saved money towards your GPU.

So that would be a no from me.

That's because when you look at their price/performance ratio, it goes higher and higher at the top end. For example, the San Diego FX-55 is $836 while the highest non-FX is the SD 4000+ at $482. The 4000+ is only 200 Mhz less, so you're paying $354 for 200 MHz and an unlocked multiplier. That's why it isn't worth it.

If I had enough money, Id get something better in terms of SCSI or some high-end graphics, and pair it up with a 3700+/3800+/4000+ rather than an FX.

in a heart beat
if it was free

Yeah, same.

Then i'd sell it too, & get an X2 4400+ 😀

Exactly..

The unlocked multiplier is sweet, but any multiplier over 9 really isn't a problem..

I would LOVE to get an FX-57 on 90nm.. 2.8ghz on 1.375v is awesome..

3.2ghz is well within reach.

I would rather get a 4800+

If it was based of the FX and 4800+ i would agree.. 2.6-2.8ghz is probably well within rach on those chips..

I'll sacrifice slighty in gaming for the extra core..

However, I would shoot for the 4400+ and swing it from there..
