Hey guys,

I just bought an ASUS SK8V and an Athlon FX-53 940-pin CPU, some new OCZ 1GB PC3200 RAM, a GeForce 6800GT and a new Enermax EG495P-VE SFMA power supply.

The Asus Probe program that comes with the motherboard is telling me my CPU is at like 55C!! But its also telling me my motherboard is 25C. I have 3 case fans as well. How in the @#%$ is it that hot? Should I be worried?

Please help.

Hey dude. Try starting your PC and check the temp in your BIOS. If it sits close to 50c (35-45) than its not the probe. If not than you may want to reinstall ASUS probe. 55c is not too hot aroun 60c is not cool and over that is a death wish :) Are you overclocking it? Also are you using the stock heatsink? If you are be warnd that they are not built for overclocking. You may want to buy a better heatsink and fan if you need better cooling. If your case dosen't have lots of fans it may not cool properly. Note: dual exaust fans 80mm or one 120mm will work nice.

let me know if this helps.

I have three case fans, all working together. I am not overclocking my CPU or anything. I have the stock HSF, what would you suggest?

Your CPU is most likley working just fine. buy a better HSF if you want better CPU cooling.

Not sure what the current model is, but Coolermaster makes a great Heatpipe HSF. I'm using the HHC-001 from a couple of years back on my Athlon 2200+. I've never had my CPU temp go over 39C under a load.
Not exactly the same CPU, but you get the idea.

I've never had any 1st hand experience with the FX procs (lucky you ;)). I bought an OEM XP 2700 and went with the Spire WhisperRock IV hsf combo. Very effective - 39C idle, 45 load... that is with the thermal grease that came with it, no AS5 (soon).

What type of thermal paste/grease did you use? There was probably a patch on the bottom of your retail hsf. As long as you actually used SOMETHING by way of thermal transfer, I think you would be much lower even with the retail hsf! I'd read up on the procs... maybe they just run hot? Guaranteed a zillion guys in here know. Sorry I'm not one of them. ;)
