The computer is supposed to have a Athlon XP 1400- 1600 processor in it, but BIOS says it is 1050mhz.

Here are the markings:

AMD Athlon
AX1600MT3G
AGOIA 0213WPKW
Y8072180091
1999 AMD

I tried to change the clock value (100 x 10.5 = 1050mhz) the max I could put it on was (132 x 10.5 = 1386mhz) but when I did that it would not reboot, so I am resetting the CMOS! I took out the battery for about 5 minutes, it still will not POST.

Anyway to tell the maker of the mobo, it doesnt have a screen when i turn it on. I wish hardware makers would mark the products with name and model #.

Dunno what mobo you are using, but my guess is that there is a 100mhz/133mhz jumper on the mobo that needs to be moved to the 133mhz position.

Im not sure on the motherboard maker! MSI probably, but even then there is no model # or anything to look up jumper settings.

It is a 1600+ and should be running at 133*10.5=1400MHz. The problem lies somewhere with the mobo.

Ok, I changed it to 132, which was the max, but now it will not post. It worked fine until I changed it.

Well, as jagilbertvt said, there is for certain a jumper somewhere (or a setting in the BIOS) to enable FSBs of 133 and up plus the PCI divisor of 4. The reason it won't boot at 132 is because the PCI divisor is still at 3, so your PCI bus is at 44MHz... very bad.

Alright found my manual and found the jumper and changed it to 133mhz, however it still will not boot up, everything turns on, except the monitor.

It seems it is not resetting the BIOS back to default settings, is there a reason ?

Ive let it set for 10 minutes, on reset with the battery taken out. it still will not do anything? keyboard light doesnt come on when I turn it on, so is the whole thing fried?

I doubt that it's fried. Did one of the front panel connectors come off perhaps when you switched the jumpers around? Another thing to try is to remove all cards and disconnect all drives. Just leave in the cpu, video card and ram (unplug kb/mouse too). My guess is that if it's not coming on one of the jumpers got moved incorrectly, or perhaps the power button connector came off accidently. Did you try moving the 100/133mhz jumper back to 100mhz?

it powers on (hard drives, fans, etc) but the monitor does not come on, nor do the keyboard lights.

I tried moving the jumper back to 100mhz, still nothing.

Ok, the stupid power cable (motherboard) was not all the way in. It is back to posting again. for now at least.

It is now running at the correct speed!
